Other Therapeutic Uses
Naturally occurring chemical compounds of Tabernanthe iboga including its primary alkaloid- ibogaine and a congener called 18-MC have been observed to have potentially significant therapeutic properties and many promising uses in health care in addition to drug detoxification and psychotherapy. While more research is needed to define how best to apply these alkaloids in healing practices, the following properties have been observed both in anecdotal/personal reports and formal scientific studies:
Antiviral
Antimycobacterial
Antifungal
Antiparasitic
